Leader

A Closer Look at a Historical Gem in Southwest Saskatchewan.

Located 30 kilometers east of Saskatchewan and Alberta border, Leader is a charming urban municipality. This small but vibrant town has a rich history that dates back over a century. Originally established under the name Prussia, the community was officially incorporated on May 1, 1917.

However, due to the shifting tides of global politics during World War I, the town 's name was changed to Leader on November 1, 1917, to reflect more positive and forward-thinking identity.

Today, Leader is governed by a dedicated team consisting of a mayor, councillors, and an administrator who work together to ensure the town 's continued growth and prosperity. As an agricultural-based community, Leader has deep ties to the surrounding farmlands, which have long been the backbone of its economy. The region’s fertile soil supports a variety of crops, including wheat, canola, and barley, making it a vital contributor to Saskatchewan's reputation as Canada’s breadbasket.

Despite its modest size, Leader boasts a strong sense of community and pride. Residents take part in the local events to celebrate their shared heritage and rural way of life. The town also serves as a hub for nearby farming families and offers essential services, businesses and amenities that cater to both locals and visitors alike.
